Welcome to Nitin's official site!

Nitin Wasant Shirsekar was born in Mumbai (India), during the early sixties when his family moved to Ahmedabad (India) during his pre-school years. The son of a mechanical engineer in a British petroleum company, he had the opportunity to travel widely across western India during the middle sixties. Residing in a frontier state, skirting the international border, he closely experienced India’s pathos, as it stood alone in the face of adversity, in two clashes, one with China in 1962 and another with Pakistan in 1965, from which the nation emerged strong and resilient with a high degree of national pride. Moving to Mumbai, during the early seventies, he experienced another war on the home front, with Pakistan in 1971, that resulted in the creation of a separate nation out of East Pakistan on its Eastern front called Bangladesh. As a pre-teen, he still retains vivid memories of the blackouts, the war mania on the streets, the news coverages and the blood donation drives, the civil defence preparations and transiting military convoys and equipment; as well as the baritone of the news reporters during the nightly radio broadcasts, that the family eagerly tuned into in the surreal atmosphere of flickering blackout lantern wicks.

He attended military school in Maharashtra (India) during the middle seventies, whose training curriculum included several types of infantry weapons and field equipment, akin to those used by Indian troops, that formed part of the British Commonwealth forces, during the war years of 1939 to 1945.

Graduating in Economics from the University of Mumbai, Nitin undertook military training in the National Cadet Corps (Army Wing), during which time, he was briefly attached to a regular Infantry Battalion of the Indian Army; [19th Battalion, The Madras Regiment], for training purposes.

Working as a middle level executive in Mumbai’s financial district, he pursued writing as a supplementary career. In addition to writing war fiction and non-fiction of the First and Second World War genre, Nitin also dabbles in full length movie and OTT screenplays, as also illustrates war action and equipment, of the genus.
